Chainguards have a built in front mounting plate with a hole to screw into a bicycle frame.  The rear hole of the chainguard sometimes does not line up with a bracket welded onto a frame, or the frame does not have a rear bracket at all, therefore a bracket in the rear is needed.  Use on any chainguard.
